Engineering News STALFORMIn Northern Capital for construction of the two-level bridge at the intersection of the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD) with the Sea Canal, the builders began assembling formwork for concreting of the pier cap of the next, 17th pier. For organizational and technical guidance for assembly and erection of formwork, to St. Petersburg by STALFORM Int to the site was dispatched a formwork installation specialist.
The unique two-level bridge is being built as part of the central section of the Western High-Speed Diameter (WHSD). Oncoming traffic movements will be carried out on the two-level 10m.-high span. The bridge will be the tallest bridge in St. Petersburg with its under-bridge 52m.- clearance.
Design of the bridge was executed by the JSC "Institute Stroiproekt ", and the General Contractor – is the Turkish-Italian Consortium Astaldi (Italy) & IC Içtaş (Turkey). The Y-shaped swelling out with the height, pier caps of the 20m.-high and 25m.-wide abutments – have a very complex configuration. In order to carry out the concreting work, by STALFORM Int’s designers, for optimum time and labor costs savings, had been designed an all-metal panel casing system. Panels and accessories were manufactured at manufacturing plant. Two additional sets of all-metal panels were designed and manufactured for concreting of the piers and the placed inside them, service hatches.
It should be noted that construction of the WHSD, is planned to be completed by next year. According to estimations of the City Administration, the high-speed highway will be allowing fans of the World Cup 2018 Championship, to get from Pulkovo Airport to the Stadium, which is located on the Krestovsky island, just in 24 minutes.
